From Brown to Blonde to Pink #MyHairStory with Dove

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Dove and Latina Bloggers Connect. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

I still remember the first time I dyed my hair. It was all because of Britney Spears. When I saw her platinum blonde locks I became envious. I bleached my dark brown hair in my kitchen with the help of a friend and then dyed it with a platinum blonde boxed hair color. It definitely made me feel like her but I sure didn’t look like her! My mom was so furious and made me use yet another boxed dye hair color (many shades darker) so the change would be less dramatic for my next day appearance in school (it was still very noticeable though!). That day in ninth grade my hair color  journey started and I would never have my brown hair again.

I’ve always said that different hair colors make me feel like a different person (refer to the photo collage above). Any time I want to change my look or feel different, the first thing I do is change my hair. Isn’t this true for all women? Right after graduating high school I dyed my hair red. With my red locks I felt daring and sexy. I also felt like a grown-up because I got my first job working at a bank. Red also famously fades really quickly from hair so that didn’t last long but it was a daring second approach to color!

Once I started college I discovered blonde highlights, and with that came a lot of confidence and staring (not a lot of blondies back home in Honduras). I even went full on platinum blonde again (but this time my mom had no qualms about it!) and it was a hard upkeep but it looked great.

Once I moved to Houston 7 years ago, I started experimenting with chocolate browns and the trendy ombre and balayage. I loved both hair highlighting techniques but I felt boring after a while so I started experimenting with asymmetrical cuts and blonder highlights.

My latest obsession and signature color would have to be pink. I discovered this is the hair color I have been waiting to try all my life! Pink hair is fashionable, feminine but not too girly, it’s daring but still sweet. Even though the upkeep is harder than with the platinum blonde, I will now always go back to pink hair. Even my husband was sad when I went blonde for a month recently. He said he missed my pink hair!

What is your ultimate dream hair color?

This hair transformation has taken a toll on my strands so before styling my hair I washed it with the Dove Advanced Series Regenerative Nourishment Shampoo and Conditioner with Red Algae and NutriComplex which repairs my strands, nourishes my hair and leaves it looking healthy. Plus, I always like to start with clean hair because it makes my style last loner.

I followed that up with two pumps of their Dove Advanced Series Serum-In-Oil which made my hair shiny and soft. I let my hair air-dry before starting my hair-style.

With pink hair I love to sweep my hair to the side and make soft waves for a chic and fun look. Check out the tutorial using my favorite Dove hairspray below:

I like to spray my hair with Dove Style + Care Extra Hold Spray before styling so that the curls hold better. What I love is that it doesn’t make my hair crunchy and smells like heaven.

White-Bobby-Pins

In order to achieve the perfect side-swept look, I like to use white bobby pins which are perfect for spring and summer hair-styles. Unlike standard bobby pins, these white pins are meant to be seen and provide another layer of style!

Life is too short and I know that #MyHairStory still has many colors left! What color is your hair story ?
