Real Life: Staycation in Houston While Everyone Partied in Cabo

It’s true my friends. I spent my holiday weekend in Houston while beautiful, turquoise colored beaches invaded my Facebook feed of all of you in Mexico, specifically  in Cabo San Lucas. Partying it up, margarita in hand while I turned a bit green with envy and a bit motivated to make myself have fun this holiday & not stay indoors blogging, working, organizing like I should have etc. I forced myself to have a true “staycation.”

So I naturally called Maddy, who is my go to companion when my hubby leaves town for work (or a bachelor party like in this case. Yes, you guessed it, in Cabo). I’m also a self-proclaimed scaredy-cat and hate to stay home alone so Maddy and her pup Rocky, keep me company every single time and I love them for that. It’s like a high-school sleepover all over again except we fall asleep at 10PM #lame. Enjoy our unplanned staycation activities and if you have any suggestions, leave them below!

  1. We listened incessantly to Chia Casanova. Just like high-school girls, we sang along and screamed at the top of our lungs listening to Chia’s music in my car. His music can be described as Latin Soul or a mix between Jamiroquai, Justin Timberlake and Sin Bandera with a sprinkle of French, English and Spanish lyrics.  I highly suggest listening to: “A Ella Le Gusta”, “Inyecta Chia Casanova”, “Te Fue Muy Sencillo” and “Paris.” I mean, they’re all good but these are on repeat in my car.

Chia-Casanova2. We got the most expensive manicure of our life. Yeah…about that. It was also one of the best manicures and nail arts of my life in one of the most beautiful locations I’ve been to in Houston. Jenya is a Russian nail artist with a mere one year in Houston but already amassing 5,900 followers on her nail-art Instagram account. Make an appointment and be warned that this is a $90 manicure/nail art creation. This was a nice splurge that I will do very sporadically. #TellingMyselfWhateverHelpsMeSleepAtNight.Nail Art in River Oaks

3. Shopped the sale at Old Navy. Old Navy has the best shorts for this hot and humid Houston weather. If you love the Pixie pant at Old Navy you will love their new Pixie short. Tailored perfection on bubble butts like mine. The Ashmores Blogger Pool Party

4. Shopped the sale at The Cottage Shop. Francesca’s is one of their biggest donors so I always get cute jewelry here at an eighth of the price. Check out my post about all the cute stuff I bought recently at The Cottage Shop.

5. Tanned at the neighborhood pool. I don’t endorse tanning for hours but I do enjoy tanning every part of my body except my face for an hour or less. I love the sun in the summer and my neighborhood pool has a giant slide so I hang out there as much as I can. I was going to share a photo of me but forgot to save my Snapchat story. Ooops. So here’s Maddy lookign cute!

Saturday at the pool6. Lunch at Churrascos. If you are from Central America like Maddy and I you can appreciate refried red beans, spicy tacos, grilled chicken with a jalapeno sauce, plantain chips and arroz con chorizo. I always take half of my dish home because the plates are huge! Churrasco’s is one of the tastiest & authentic meals I’ve ever had in Houston that remind me of Honduras. Oh, and did I mention they have the best $3 Mojitos? Cheers!

7. Free outdoor yoga with Revolution at Sugar Land Town Square. Jillian, Maddy and me had a beautiful morning stretching and laughing on Memorial Day. Revolution studio has an incredible offer going on right now: two weeks of unlimited yoga and cycling for $35 for new customers. Free yoga with Revolution

8. Made line for 2 hours at Hopdaddy in River Oaks District. This Austin staple is now in Houston! Making line was fun because you can have cocktails and the people watching is the best.  Just don’t have the Skinny Dip because you’ll be smashed by the time you’re at the start of the line. I always order the “El Diablo” burger which has serrano peppers, onions and chipotle mayo. So spicy and so good! But what really surprised me was their Lil’ Prick prickly pear margarita which happens to be in my favorite color and is oh so easy to drink.

  1. Wow. Such a fun weekend. That nail art is fabulous! I also listened to Chia Casanova. It is Latin Soul. Thanks for the suggestion! Will add it to my library.
