Raising Type 1 Diabetes Awareness | My Story

November was a busy month for me! It was Diabetes Awareness Month and I also celebrated another birthday. It was also the first time I decided to raise awareness of Type I Diabetes through my own story of my pregnancy and empower other women overcome with anxiety and fear like me.

I wrote my story for Latina Moms and also shared my experience with Harris County Public Health through a Facebook live which I’ve linked below.

It’s #DiabetesAwarenessMonth & I wanted to talk about my ?Diabetes T1 which I don’t do enough on here! I’m not here to talk to you about my outfit, but rather, what’s underneath it! ? You’d never know I’m permanetly connected to an insulin pump & to my continuous blood glucose monitor, the @dexcom. I’ve always had to be fashion conscious when wearing both these devices that are connected to my body. ??‍♀️Fashionable tears in my jeans could expose a very unfashionable insulin pump site or a crop top could reveal a big button like CGM on my abdomen. Nothing prepares you for these superficial nuances that become part of your everyday life. But from the looks of this photo, I think I have it under control right?! ???In 28 years of being #diabetic I’ve conquered many things but probably the most important one was having my baby Nicolás Enrique + growing our family & that was all thanks to the Dexcom monitoring my blood sugar levels closely to deliver a healthy baby. I definitely feel like a warrior in this journey & I’m glad that with this post Dexcom will be donating a $1 to a #Diabetes charity. If you post your own story or share my post, they’ll donate too! #DexcomWarriors #WarriorUp #notsponsored ******************************************************? @terryhalseyphoto *******************************************************#DiabetesType1 #houstonlatinabloggers #fablatinos #newmom #boymom #motherhood #familyportrait #WorldDiabetesDay #Medtronic #DexcomG5Mobile
